Want to know what methods great drumlines use in rehearsal to be more successful? In this interview, I'm joined by the one and only Bret Kuhn. Bret is a dear friend and mentor of mine and was kind enough to share his experiences and advice with the Drumline Chops community. In this interview, Bret and I talk about:
Bret Kuhn graduated with a Bachelors degree from Northeast Missouri State University where he studied percussion under the direction of Dan Peterson. He was in the Disney World All-American Band in 1980 and marched with the Cavalier Drum and Bugle Corps in 1981. Bret started teaching the drumline at the Cavaliers in 1984 serving as both the Percussion Caption Head and the Percussion Arranger. During his time at the corps, the Cavaliers won six World Championships and five High Percussion Awards. Bret is the percussion coordinator at Prospect High School in Mt. Prospect, Illinois and an adjunct faculty member for the Northern Illinois Marching Band. He consults with the Arizona State University Sun Devil Marching Bnad and writes for many drum corps, marching bands, and drumlines around the world.
Pat McLaughlin is the founder of Drumline Chops. He graduated from the University of North Texas with a degree in music education and is currently the percussion director at West Bloomfield High School.
