6 Epic Drumlines from the Early 90s that You Must Know About

Missing
The early 1990s were filled with some great DCI drumlines. In this article, we're going to take a moment to pay homage to six epic drumlines from the early 90s that everyone should know about. There's no question that these lines helped shape the marching percussion activity and should be acknowledged for their work and accomplishments. People involved with these lines can take a moment to pound their chest while the younger guys are introduced to their very important rudimental lineage. In no particular order:

1. 1992 Santa Clara Vanguard Drumline

Led by the one and only Scott Johnson, this line of all stars includes Nick Angelis, Walter Powell, Jeff Queen, Colin McNutt, and Murray Gusseck just to name a few.

2. 1994 Velvet Knights Drumline

There's no doubt that Tom Float and Paul Rennick had this line jammin'. Check these guys out as they play some classic beats and tight rolls.

3. 1993 Star of Indiana Drumline

With Thom Hannum, Jim Ancona, Colin McNutt, and Lee Beddis on staff, there's no wonder this drumline is still being viewed as one of the best. Check out our interview with David Reeves to hear more about the 1993 Start of Indiana.

4. 1990 Blue Devils Drumline

A classic Tom Float line never disappoints - just listen to those rolls! And, in true Blue Devil fashion, the rack makes an appearance to be featured in a great drum break.

5. 1991 Cavaliers Drumline

There's no doubt that James Campbell, Bret Kuhn, and the Cavies drumline had a great year in 1991! Watch this parking lot warm up to see them in action!

6. 1991 Cadets Drumline

Tom Aungst produces another great line and this time he had something special up his sleeve - 14 quad players! (P.S. If you were on this line, we want to know how you guys lugged these drums around all summer as well as how long tuning took before shows! Shoot us an email through the contact page.)
